Top Restaurants in San Francisco, California

On the hunt for the best restaurants in San Francisco? You won’t have to look far – the city is a heavenly place for food. After all, the town’s restaurant scene is second to none, and boasts the country’s oldest restaurant (with one of the coolest scenes, to boot). Tuck into thin-crust pizza made by an artisan master, or sit down to a steak at a spot that could double in a scene from a classic Sam Spade movie. Or, go for dinner and a movie (literally), without skipping a beat. The choice is yours at the following establishments, among the best restaurants San Francisco, CA has to offer.

Foreign Cinema

It’s dinner and a movie all in one at Foreign Cinema. Watch a classic Fellini film on the wall in the courtyard as you slurp oysters and Moroccan spiced fried chicken. You’ll find mostly Mediterranean food here, naturally, and there’s also an enticing brunch.

EPIC Steak

Chef Parke Ulrich knows his beef. But that’s not all: Look out at the bay while drinking a choice vintage, and then dig into a generously sized steak. Go with the Julia Child potatoes and for dessert build your own sundae—or you can take recommendations from the staff.

Tadich Grill

This is the oldest restaurant in California (it’s been here for about 160 years, more or less) and while there are more expensive places to wine and dine, you’ll want to get client in one of the brass and wood booths, then order two famous crab cioppinos – manage to hook it up, and you’d have to insult their offspring to keep them from signing on the bottom line. Steaks and seafood are equally fab, though you simply can’t go wrong with the fish (it’s what the venue is — deservedly — known for). Tadich won’t take reservations, but that just gives you time for one of the affable bartenders to pour you a couple martinis to start. The waiters walking around in white coats will also make you want to stay once you get that table. Consider it a must-do.

A16

The chef at A16 follows the traditional pizza-making methods of southern Italy. Its delicious thin-crust pizzas and wines are indigenous to Campania (the eponymous “A16” is the road running through that region of the south of Italy). Note that there’s another A16 location in Oakland, with delivery. Oh, and are you in the mood for chips? Ask for Taralli. Trust us.
